Senior All-Star Game set for Saturday at Joey De Sa Field


The Chace Numata Senior All-Star baseball game pitting recent high school graduates will be played 1 p.m. Saturday at Joey De Sa Field.

The game will feature recent graduating seniors from the Interscholastic League of Honolulu and Oahu Interscholastic Association. The teams will be called the Hawaiian All-Stars and the Aloha All-Stars.

The game is organized by Farrington baseball coach and scout Eric Tokunaga. He founded a similar type game called the Sugar Mill Classic in 1999 at Hans L'Orange Park.

The game is named in honor for 2010 Pearl City High graduate Chace Numata, who died from injuries from a skakeboarding accident in 2019, when he was playing for the Detroit Tigers' Double-A affiliate, the Erie (Pennsylvania) Sea Wolves.. He was a 10-year minor-league player with three organizations. He was drafted in the 14th round by the Philadelphia Phillies upn graduating from Pearl City.
