Falcons deny Menehunes to move on, 6-3

One year after getting knocked out in the opening round of the state tournament, the Kalani Falcons are in the final four.

The Falcons built a 6-0 lead through five innings before staving off a late rally by Waimea to earn a 6-3 win in the quarterfinals of the DataHouse/HHSAA Division II Softball Championships Wednesday afternoon at McKinley's Tiger Softball Stadium.

Cherise Horita and Kylie Pagud both hit it out of the park to power third-seeded Kalani in into the semifinals, where it will face second-seeded Kamehameha-Hawaii at Rainbow Wahine Softball Stadium Thursday at 11:30 a.m.

Horita also tossed 12 strikeouts to earn the win in the circle.

Waimea's Kieren Henderson batted 2-for-3 with two doubles and a run scored to lead the Menehunes in the loss.

Warriors tame Dragons to advance, 11-1
Kamehameha-Hawaii scored in five of six innings as it took care of Honokaa, 11-1, in the quarterfinals of the DataHouse/HHSAA Division II Softball Championships at McKinley's Tiger Softball Stadium Wednesday afternoon.

Taylor-James Sullivan batted 3-for-4 with two RBIs and Kuulei Anuenue scored twice and hit a two-run homer to power the Warriors into the semifinals.

Brooke Baptiste tossed a two-hitter with nine strikeouts to earn the win in the circle for the Warriors. She also had a double and scored once to help her case.

Taylor Tabubuc led the Dragons in the loss with a solo home run in the top of the fourth for Honokaa's lone score.

Saint Francis third baseman Sammie Ofoia hit two home runs to power the Saints into the Division II semifinals.

Saints power past Farmers, 13-1
Saint Francis continued its hot hitting streak with a 13-1 mercy-rule win over fourth-seeded Molokai at McKinley's Tiger Softball Stadium in the quarterfinals of the Data House/HHSAA Division II Softball Championships.

Third baseman Sammie Ofoia batted 2-for-2 with two home runs and four RBIs to power the Saints into the semifinals.

Sierrah Kupihea threw nine strikeout in five innings to pick up the win. The only Molokai player to record a hit on her was Tallan Garces, who had a solo homer in the bottom of the third inning to make it a 2-1 game.

The Saints later added three runs in the fourth and eight more in the fifth to put the game out of reach.
