ALA WAI — Saint Louis exploded late for seven runs in the fifth inning to mercy rule Maryknoll, 13-3, in five innings Wednesday afternoon at Ala Wai Park.

The win snapped a three-game losing skid for the Crusaders, who improved to 4-8 with three games remaining on their Interscholastic League of Honolulu regular season schedule.

Maryknoll falls to 5-8 and have now lost its last five games. The Spartans have only two games remaining and currently sit at No. 5 in the standings with the Crusaders right behind in the sixth spot.

Cole Kashimoto led Saint Louis with two RBIs on a 1-for-3 day with a double and two runs scored. Micah Mashima was the only player in the game to have more than one hit, going 2 for 2 with one RBI, two walks and two runs scored. Matthew Saelua, Hunter Peneueta, Charles Lopez III and Kashimoto each came across the plate twice.

Senior Kanoa Meredith recorded his first pitching win of the season, going all five innings with three hits and two earned runs allowed while striking out three batters.

Saint Louis started strong with four runs scored in the first frame, while Maryknoll nearly matched in the bottom half of the first inning by scoring three runs.

Justice Yamashita was tabbed with the loss, lasting three innings while giving up three hits and having only two of the six runs given up counting as earned.

The Crusaders play Hanalani, Mid-Pacific and Punahou to end the regular season while the Spartans finish with Mid-Pacific and Kamehameha.
