Teams might want to start giving Sammie Ofoia the Jocelyn Alo treatment.
The junior third baseman smashed two three-run home runs on a perfect 4-for-4 day to power Saint Francis over Kalani in six innings, 10-0, in the first round of the DataHouse/HHSAA Division II state tournament Wednesday night.
The Saints, the lone D2 team in the Interscholastic League of Honolulu, moves on to face fourth-seeded and Maui Interscholastic League champ Molokai in a 4:30 p.m. quarterfinal game on Thursday.
Ofoia's two homers were well beyond the outfield fencing of McKinley's Tiger Softball Stadium. Her first longball, to right field in the first inning, went over the protective tarp wall around the exterior of the outfield.
Ofoia's second deep shot went even farther, going over the stadium's scoreboard and towards the school's gymnasium to give Saint Francis a 6-0 lead in the bottom of the fourth inning.
Haley Yoshioka's three-run triple in the bottom of the sixth inning helped induce the 10-run mercy rule with no outs.
Sierrah Kupihea earned the pitching win for the Saints, scattering four hits with three strikeouts in five innings of work.
Cherise Horita was tagged with the loss, giving up 13 hits, 10 runs (eight earned) and two walks against five strikeouts.
Shortstop Toni-Lynn Ibara batted 2-for-2 with one double to lead the Falcons in the loss.
