SALT LAKE-- Top-seeded Punahou wiped out Waianae, 25-10, 25-10, 25-15 in the quarterfinals of the New City Nissan/Hawaii High School Athletic Association at Moanalua High School. The Buffanblu advance to play fourth-seeded King Kekaulike in the semifinals at Moanalua on Friday, May 15 at 5 p.m. The season is over for the Seariders.

Punahou's Micah Maa had a team-high 14 kills and six digs, Wil Stanley added 10 kills and 10 assists, Todd Gruebner had 17 assists and DJ McIerny added 11 assists. Kelsey Yogi had three service aces. The Buffanblu got 49 total kills and 45 assists as a team for the game. 

In the first set, Waianae kept it close trailing by four, but the Buffanblu proved to be too much as they pulled away. Kuresa had a kill as Waianae trailed,16-8, but Punahou used a 9-2 run to close out the first set.

The second set had a similar outcome, the Seariders kept it close with the Buffanblu early before Punahou pulled away, going on a 13-3 run to close out the second set.

Waianae started to rally late in the third set as they trailed, 19-14 after an attack error on the Buffanblu. Punahou finished the deal going on a 6-1 run to end the game and match.

Nayton Kuresa had a team-high five kills, Jahren Muliagatele had 12 assists, and Jonah Poe added eight digs for the Seariders.
