Moanalua's Oda wins individual crown, Punahou repeats as team champs

Moanalua's John Oda birdied the second playoff hole to fend off the Punahou duo of PJ Samiere and Kyle Suppa and win his second individual title at the David S. Ishii Foundation/Hawaii High School Athletic Association Boys Golf State Championships at the Turtle Bay Palmer course Thursday.

Oda shot a second-round 1-over par 73 after he entered the final round tied with Mid-Pacific's Zackary Kaneshiro for the overnight lead. Oda shot a two-day total of 142, as did Samiere and Suppa, who helped the Buffanblu repeat as team champions. Punahou narrowly edged Moanalua just a mere three strokes.

Baldwin finished third, Mid-Pacific fourth and Kaiser rounded out the top five teams.

It was Oda's second individual crown. He also won in 2012, when the tournament was held at Kauai's Wailua Golf Course.
