For the first time in nearly 42 years, an OIA boys volleyball crown is heading back to Kalihi.

Farrington served up fifteen aces, including a stretch of six in one rotation courtesy of Samuel Faumui, helping the Governors capture the OIA White division title in four sets over Waialua, 25-19, 25-13 18-25, 25-22.

"Its great for the kids, they work really hard. They believe in the system and they continue to work and they just didn't stop." said Farrington head coach Regan Agena.

The Governors took a 21-14 lead on a Faumui kill in the opening set, the last point via attack in set one, as Farrington outlasted Waialua through a string of ten unforced errors by either team to win the set, 25-19.

Farrington served up two aces in the first set win, and used the service line as a big weapon in the second.

Marco Cudia served up ace number one in the second to give the Governors an 11-10 lead, put down a kill on the next point and then followed that up with another service gem to push the margin to 13-10.

Faumui was next at the back line with the Govs already up 17-12, and promptly served up an ace, forcing Waialua to burn a second timeout. Coming out of the timeout, Faumui would serve up another pair of aces, before taking a short break to slam down a kill, and then proceeded to notch two more.

"They're a really, tough serving team. Everyone can serve on that team." said Waialua head coach Todd Cambonga. "The jump serve is a really tough serve to pass, and it really messed up our offense."

Waialua called its final timeout of the set, but an undeterred Faumui served up ace number six and nearly got a seventh one that would have ended the set, but the line driver fell just inches from the end line to end the streak.

Enele Scanlan's kill on the preceding point put Farrington up 2 games to none.

Despite losing a big part of their gameplan in outside hitter Joshua Mendoza due to an apparent ankle sprain, Waialua rallied to take set three 25-18, as Tyren-Jon Moniz put down 4 kills and 2 blocks and Mendoza added courageous three kills despite the injury.

"He has a really bad sprain." said Cambonga."I was gonna keep him out, but because he's one of our captains and a team leader, so I decided to let him back in."

Set four looked to be a runaway one for Farrington, as the Govs jumped out to a 4-0 lead out the gate, and built a 13-7 advantage midway through the set as Faumui knocked down his 13th kill of the night. But the Bulldogs continued to chip away at the margin, eventually closing to 23-21 on Mendoza's 13th kill, forcing the Governors to call for time.

An unforced error by Govs out the timeout closed the gap to a single point, but back-to-back miscues by Waialua on the next two points sealed the win for Farrington.

Faumui had a match-high 16 kills to along with 3 blocks and 6 aces. Liana added 13 kills, a block and 2 aces, and Marco Rey Cudia chipped in 8 kills and 5 aces.

"We're looking at those two (Faumui and Liana) obviously to get big points for us, and Marco is doing a good job as far as getting active offensively." said Agena.

Both teams had already qualified for the Division II state tournament simply by making the OIA White division final, but the Govs clearly were elated to be bringing that long awaited league crown back to Kalihi.

"After forty years, we need to bring that back to our school, plus we're all participating in our May Day tommorrow so everyone is over there waiting, setting up so, we didn't want to go back saying we didn't win." said Liana.
